Description

The 54400031 Ingersoll Rand Coupling is an OEM coupling for portable air compressors. It bolts to the engine flywheel and drives the compressor airend, carrying full engine torque through a flexible rubber body that absorbs torsional pulses and takes up the small amounts of misalignment normal to a two-machine driveline.

Couplings are wear items. The rubber body is the part of the driveline meant to give up energy, and as it hardens, cracks, or takes a set, engine firing pulses stop being damped and pass straight into the airend bearings, rotor shafts, and seals. Vibration and noise usually show up first; the bearing damage that follows costs far more than the coupling. This is the factory component, dimensioned to fit the original mounting without modification.
